マチゲリータ (Machigerita) - 雪月花 (Setsugekka)

Singer, Lyrics, Music : Machigerita
The comment on the original Niconico video was:

「隣で眠る、もう居ない貴方へ。」
"To you, who is no longer here, sleeping beside me."

歌詞 (Japanese lyrics here) ・ Romaji ・ English Translation

------------------------

Note:
  1. Even though "shiroku naru" is written in the video, it is not sung. That's why I wrote it in between [ ] here.

Setsugekka
Song: Machigerita

Hiding the sky, the snow falls whitely in the night.
A season, embraced by frozen flower petals

I am by your side. You have grown cold.
I am choked by grief. Please, please answer me.

The warmth in my little finger absolutely won't disappear.
I won't forget the days upon days either.
Aa
I cried, remembering the sound of our bells.

Setsugekka

Lighting the lantern, the light flickers.
The scenery held is a road without even footprints

The snow piled on this road that we [once] walked, holding hands.
[It's whitening,] as if everything is being erased. It's so sad.

The warmth in my little finger absolutely won't disappear.
I won't forget the days upon days either.
Aa
I cried, remembering the sound of our bells.

Setsugekka

I tried letting our bells ring.
Only the tears streaming down my cheek are warm.
Farewell, until the day we meet again. Farewell, my beloved one.

Setsugekka

Notes:
  • The translation is not as close to the Japanese as I would have liked it to be, but these lines just don't really allow me to incorporate every element present in the Japanese lines without butchering the English language (even more than I normally do XD)
  1. I left out "osoroi". It means "matching" as demonstrated in the following sentence: "osoroi no yubiwa" -> "a pair of matching rings". To me, it has the same connotation.
  2. The phrase "setsugekka" (lit: "snow, moon, flowers") traditionally denotes the beauty of nature, in particular that of the seasons. As I cannot think of a proper phrase in English (neither "passing seasons" nor "beautiful seasons" incorporate both the sense of "beauty" as well as "time"), I left the Japanese phrase.
